Export Quad Maps

Top  Previous  Next

Any Quad Map can be exported as a separate plot file. When you do this, each Quad plot file will only contain the passages enclosed in that Quad. This allows you to view or work on only the passages in that quad. You can use the individual quad files with the SVG Exporter as a starting point for finished, hand-drawn maps created with Illustrator or Inkscape. You can also export the individual quad files to various format such as Shape, KML and DXF files.

To Export your quad maps, select the "Export" tab in the Quad Dialog Box. Here is a description of the various options:

Base Name. A quad map grid can consist of dozens of individual sections. To keep track of the individual plot files, Compass names the files according to the label sequence you've set up.

You have a choice of a "Base Name" for the quad name. For example, if the base name was "Carlsbad," the program would generate filenames such as:

CarlsbadA0.plt

CarlsbadA1.plt

CarlsbadA2.plt

File Count. The File Count value shows the total number of files that will be saved. This is controlled by the  number of Rows and Columns you have specified.

Quad Path. This item specifies the path and folder where the files will be saved. The path defaults to same folder from which the current plot file was loaded. You can specify a different path and folder by pressing the button just the right of Path display.

Save Quads. When you press the Save Quads button, the files will be saved to specified folder. You can then load any of the the saved files in back into the Viewer or the SVG Exporter where they can be viewed or exported as in any one of a dozen formats.
